2014 NEWRnet Intern Short Course: June 4th and 5th at the University of Delaware
On June 4th and 5th, thirteen NEWRnet interns visited the University of Delaware for the first annual NEWRnet short course. The 2014 short course included presentations by NEWRnet faculty introducing students to climate change in the northeast, experimental economics, and water quality issues faced in the region.
Students played an experimental economics game where they explored human impacts on water quality. Field excursions included a trip to the Wilmington drinking water treatment facility on the Brandywine Creek, and a visit to Fair Hill Natural Resources Area to see a stream monitoring site for the NEWRnet project.
NEWRnet interns will spend 10 weeks studying topics related to water quality and agent based modeling in three EPSCoR states: Delaware, Vermont and Rhode Island. Students will reconvene at the University of Delaware in August to present their research.
